This last week has been interesting and unusual for a number of reasons. Wednesday was with her father all week for one, we welcomed a kitchen aide stand mixer and a deep freeze to our home, our fence was completed (still waiting on the deck etc ) I got to have Brother Tom over for a nice long visit, and I got to See some seriously AMAZING theatre . And , Oh yeah, THE CRAWL-SPACE UNDER OUR HOUSE WAS INVADED BY SKUNKS !
It was a little over a week ago , when I awoke at 5 am to the ripe stench of skunk spray eminating through the floorboards of our home . I was soon to discover that our dear Mrs. cat had managed to get sprayed and after coming inside , had rubbed the smell all over practically EVERYTHING in the house ! ( God Bless Mrs. Cat, wasn't that sweet of her ?) So I called our local critter catcher , who informed me that he was booked solid until the following Monday (2 days hence). After Wednesday's dad picked her up from our rather pungent Abode Sunday after Church , I got the pleasure of figuring out how to get the skunk off the least friendly of all our animals , who absoloutley HATES baths. Thankfully , a friend from church (who happens to also be the sister-in-law of our wonderful groomer) gave me a recipe for ridding a pet from skunk stench ( God bless Mayberry and Facebook ! ) with stuff you just have around the house ! I escaped from her bath having only nearly lost a nipple , which considering the precedent she has set , really wasn't too bad.
Monday came , and with it came the critter catcher , Gary. Bill and I have both concurred that the most accurate means of describing him are as follows ; if Smegall/Gollum ( from 'The Lord of The Rings') was from Deliverance and wore a blonde mullett. You get the picture ? Blessedly Smegall was a Lot smarter than he looked , and the morning after he had set the traps , we had caught TWO skunks ! The next day we caught two more ! At this point , I had taken to putting pictures of the trapped skunks on facebook, which was not the brightest idea , since Mrs.Dog and Mr.Dog promptly got out during day twos skunk photo-shoot and got a liberal coating of Skunk sauce ! ( i now know, thanks to my white dogs that skunk sauce is almost safety yellow, ewwww) Ultimately we ended up catching FIVE skunks total ! Smegall is now in the throes of trying to catch the raccoons ( no more Coon-cinara's for Bill, lol ) The traps are now baited with soft cat food, because apparently , that is what Raccoons like.
In short, after over a week of checking traps daily and bathing animals like it's going out of style, I need a vacation ! At least if we do catch any raccoons , they won't spray the dogs !
I promise the next one will be more organized ( this stupid little blurb took four days to finish, and I lost count of the number of interruptions )
Thanks for reading my crap anyway. Your awesome :-)
